Why I built Yachito
It started with my own kids. The default now is apps that track a kid's every move. I wanted the opposite: not to watch them, but to give them the tools and support to navigate life themselves, with someone in their corner when they need it.
I set Yacho up on their laptops with a few notes about what mattered. It quietly helped my son find a $5,000 scholarship he'd never have come across on his own. Not by nagging, just by paying attention and raising it at the right moment.
That's how I think we should all use AI: not as something that surveils you or decides for you, but as a partner, a sounding board, a confidant that you use responsibly and that stays firmly on your side. What it knows stays on your machine.

Does my journal ever leave my Mac?
It doesn't have to. Your notebook is plain markdown in folders you control. With a local model, nothing leaves at all; with a cloud model like Claude, only the context a request needs is sent. And if you ever sync across devices, it's end-to-end encrypted. No one, not even Yachito, can read it.
